It’s been such a long, long time since we’ve been able to reach out to new people in ways that haven’t been 99% online, so I wanted to do a video update talking about how exciting this whole experience was!

The other morning I rode my bicycle across town to meet with Amanda’s Mom, Laurie, to go over the script notes she provided - Amanda joined us on iChat.
We are so excited to be at this stage of writing - I can’t even explain how happy and rewarding it feels to hold the finished script in my hands.
From here on during post-production, things are about to pick up pace very quickly. I’m doing my best to prepare myself for the next several months… they are going to be our hardest yet… but I know all of it will be worth it.
Note: I realized, only after recording this, that if you use the front-facing camera on the iPhone that it is *not* 720p HD… so this is a little low-light and crazy looking.
Several nights ago, I grabbed my camera and felt inspired to drive to Ann Arbor, park behind the State, and climb up on the roofs to record a video update for FToM.
I suppose the reason I wanted to do so was because it’s been about 5 years since I’ve been up there, and I used to climb up there to think and get away and be alone. While up there at 2 or 4 in the morning, I would spend a lot of time thinking about storytelling and how I wanted to go about achieving that interest.
The other night felt like a good time to revisit that spot - I think, or I hope, I’ve come a long ways since then, and it *did* feel nice to be up there after so long. I had plans to record a very personal video talking about these things, and how my friend, Vu, helped motivate me when I was feeling very stuck and disposable.
So, this video is the 1st few clips I filmed on my way up above the buildings overlooking State St., and then it cuts off because, the video I took is so dark it is completely black. Zero information there what-so-ever. Just blackness. Every once in a while in the 16 minutes of video I recorded you are able to see the streetlights blur past frame and make out my silhouette. But it’s really just frustrating more than anything to watch. I feel fairly lame about that.
The point of the video I recorded was to a) talk about the importance to me of those rooftops, and to b) explain some of the very ambitious plans I have been working hard on since my conversation with Vu.
A plan that, for the time being, I’m referring to as the “6 months plan”. It’s too early to go into the details yet, and no, I didn’t go into details in the video, so you’re not missing anything now that would have been, but I’ve been doing a lot of brainstorming and I’m anxious to share it all as soon as I’m confident it’s a realistic and attainable plan.
The first of the three pages was written well over a year ago, and the 2nd two are variations on the same moment from different approaches. One version focuses more on the “chain of events” perspective; that Larry’s own experience will go on to influence other people’s experiences, and how that relationship feeds itself at a level that often goes unnoticed.
Another page deals with the rush of emotions that come at the very end of any long adventure… all the memories associated with your trip, all the struggles and little memories seem to snap together at once and it’s an overwhelming rush that comes and goes all too fast. I guess I just thought that writing about this might help me find what I’m looking for, and also it’s been 9 days since my last post and I wanted to let people know what I’ve been working on piecing together. All this talk of Bar Harbor and arriving at the Atlantic has reminded me of this video Amanda and I recorded, knowing that we had finally made it to the end of production. Also, before I sign off, I wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the feedback on the Digg*athon question. I’ve been working on putting that together as soon as possible. Stay posted.
Post-Production : Week 59
It’s been another busy week – I just finished getting the Netflix Competition and the Rooftop Films DVDs all sealed and ready to go for tomorrow! And I was about to export a new teaser, then sit down and get a few more thoughts down on paper for the film.
I have to say the Netflix Competition is a long shot – more accurately; it’s a really, really, really crazy long shot – but it feels good to enter and at least give it a shot. You never know unless you try. But I’m pretty excited and anxious about the Rooftop Film Fest. I don’t know if it’s possible, but I’ve wanted to attend for the last several years. And being accepted would be a great excuse to buy a ticket to NY!

Post Production - Week 57
It’s been a few weeks since our last video update :( it’s always hard to keep up over the new years. But it feels good to do one of these, we’ve been keeping ourselves very busy since being back in LA. Here’s a quick update on what’s been responsible for my lack of sleep the last week

getting ready to fly back to Michigan for the holidays. just a brief wrap up of what mike and i have been working on. we’re trying to get more organized and set some good goals for ourselves. honestly, this is very boring and i wouldn’t bother watching it. :/ and i mumble anyway. sorry folks. would’ve redone it, but i just don’t have the time. waking up at 5 am to catch my flight. HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE! we’ll be back to work in full-effect in January :)

It’s been a year since sitting down and importing the first hour of footage into the computer… a lot has been checked off since then, but there’s much, much more left to do before we’re done. It’s exciting… it’s overwhelming… mostly the overwhelming part.

Post Production – Week 31
Holy crap. The day has finally come – as of tonight I have 100% of Pedal’s footage logged and organized. Yay. To celebrate I went to Ralph’s and bough some Ben & Jerry’s ‘Half Baked’ ice cream, although it’s not my favorite :P but they were out of the brownie one. Anyways… I feel so relieved :)
post production – week 30
Yay. Today I finished logging the 1st scratch disk of Pedal’s footage, which is 1,700+ individual video clips. I’m moving on now to the 2nd (and last) scratch disk, which has about 250 clips on it.
After that there are a several hundred miscellaneous clips from personal cameras that Larry had while riding, and that Amanda and I had during filming. Not all of them needed to be tagged for the film, but most need to be looked at for the episodes.
